LIVERPOOL, England (AP) — Liverpool overcame an early deficit and a disputed red card to beat Bournemouth 3-1 at Anfield in the English Premier League on Saturday for its first win of the season. Bournemouth stunned the host by taking the lead through Antoine Semenyo in just the third minute after Liverpool turned the ball over cheaply deep inside its own half. But Luis Diaz equalized with an acrobatic volley in the 28th and Liverpool was awarded a penalty when Joe Rothwell made light contact with Dominik Szoboszlai just inside the area, and the midfielder fell theatrically to the ground.Mohamed Salah’s spot kick was saved by Bournemouth goalkeeper Neto, but the Egypt striker slotted in the rebound to put Liverpool ahead.Alexis Mac Allister was then shown a straight red card in the 58th for kicking Ryan Christie’s leg after a mistimed challenge for the ball, giving Bournemouth hopes of a comeback. But going a man down seemed to only galvanize Liverpool, and Diogo Jota wa...Russian missile strike kills 7 in Ukraine, including child

A missile strike launched by Russian forces into the center of the Ukrainian city of Chernihiv killed seven people — including a six-year-old girl — and injured more than 100, the Ukrainian Interior Ministry said on Saturday.“An ordinary Saturday, which Russia turned into a day of pain and loss,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on the social media site Telegram. A central square, a polytechnic school and a theater were damaged in the attack, he said. The strike came as Zelenskyy was was traveling to Sweden for talks with Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson. The leaders discussed the possible supply of Gripen jets for Kyiv’s war effort, Zelenskyy said after their meeting, which followed news on Friday that the Netherlands and Denmark confirmed they received approval from the U.S. to send F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine. Zelenskyy encouraged Kristersson to “share” Gripen aircraft with Ukraine, the Associated Press reported. “We do not have superiority in the air,...Newly discovered snake species found in remote Peruvian land is named for Harrison Ford

(CNN) — Four researchers navigated treacherous terrain and feared for their lives during a harrowing brush with suspected drug traffickers in one of the most dangerous, scientifically unexplored areas in the world, according to the lead scientist and an account published by a nonprofit conservation organization. But the highlight of the trip to South America was discovering a species of snake new to science, which the team named for action icon Harrison Ford — a moment of levity in an otherwise dramatic excursion, noted Dr. Edgar Lehr, the lead author of a scientific paper describing the snake species. The report was published August 15 in the German journal Salamandra. At the time, Lehr, who is a professor of biology at Illinois Wesleyan University, thought: “Wouldn’t this be cool to dedicate this new species to Harrison Ford? And also funny because of the hate his character ‘Indiana Jones’ (has for snakes)?”Now it’s official: The nearly foot-and-a-half-long, yellow-br...State auditor’s threat against Massachusetts legislature ‘rare,’ Andrea Campbell says

Massachusetts Auditor Diana DiZoglio’s request to pursue legal action against the legislature to force them to comply with an audit of their operations is “rare,” Attorney General Andrea Campbell said Friday.DiZoglio asked Campbell last month for permission to take the House and Senate to court in an effort to get the two branches to open up their finances and divulge details on active and pending legislation, processes for appointing committees, adoption and suspension of rules, and policies and procedures of the Massachusetts General Court. But it is uncommon for one side of state government to take legal action against another, Campbell said.“I just want to stress that this is rare that you have one part of government wanting to sue another or vice versa depending on how this unfolds,” Campbell said on GBH’s Boston Public Radio.DiZoglio is required to seek approval from the attorney general before bringing a lawsuit against any entity, public or private, according to state law. SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Canary Islands (AP) — Thousands more residents of Tenerife in Spain’s Canary Islands have fled their homes as a wildfire that authorities deemed “out of control” raged on for a fourth day.The regional government for the Canary Islands said that 4,000 more people were ordered to evacuate on Saturday. Those were in addition to the 4,500 people who on Friday were forced to move out of harm’s way on the Atlantic island that is home to around a million people and is also a popular tourist destination. That figure of more than 8,000 evacuees is expected to rise, and perhaps sharply. Emergency services for the Canary Islands said later that the number of evacuees “could surpass 26,000” according to provisional calculations based on the island’s census. The service added that all those people who needed somewhere to take refuge would be directed to shelters. The regional government said that “the fire is beyond our capacity to extinguish it” due to hot and dry conditio...Large wildfire ravages forest in northern Greece as 8 villages are evacuated
